Collection Procedures

We have designed not only our collection kit, but also our cord blood collection procedure with you in mind. A larger number of umbilical stem cells will provide a better cord blood transplant. However, a high volume of blood does not always guarantee a high stem cell count. A collection of 40 cc's can have a higher stem cell count than a 100-cc collection. The more steps involved, the greater the chance of bacterial contamination, time taken away from patient care, or mistakes or mishaps. A company using cord blood collection procedures that require steps to add anticoagulant or change syringes mid-stream increase the chance of contamination, compromised collection and can become a "manipulation nightmare" for the physician. CorCell's cord blood collection procedure - wipe, insert needle, and collect into a closed-system bag is simple. A closed-system bag provides the least chance of contamination. Furthermore, if the umbilical collection procedure is user-friendly, it increases the opportunity for better yield for the patient.

Obstetricians tell us CorCell's paperwork is also simple, requiring only 2 minutes of the physician's time to complete - compared to other stem cell banking companies where it will require up to 20 minutes. CorCell is committed to quality procedures that are simple and to minimal paperwork - allowing the physician to focus on the new mother and baby.
